The spring Blackhawks program is designed to provide a competition team for high school players who schools do not play lacrosse. The team began competition in 2010 and has continued each spring since then. The team plays as an independent club team and is listed and has its scores reported on Laxpower.
The spring team’s home field is Cash-Bagley Athletic Complex, 4700 Old Hollow Road, Kernersville.
The Spring 2015 Blackhawks roster includes 24 players from 14 different high schools.
Spring Team Preseason. Conditioning and stickwork takes place on Saturday mornings in January and February at Cash-Bagley Athletic Complex. The first official practice is in mid-February at Cash-Bagley. Practices during the first two weeks are generally every evening, with scrimmages on Saturday. Except in rare cases or to makeup missed practices or postponed games, we do not practice or play on Sundays. Once games start in early March, we generally practice on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with Saturday as the primary game day. We also occasionally play games during the week. Our season will continue into May.
The focus of the spring team is to improve players through proper practice and game participation so that we are able to compete against a challenging schedule. Depending on numbers, the team generally splits between a jv and a varsity squad, with several players playing on both. Even though the spring Blackhawks are not governed by the North Carolina High School Athletic Program, we do expect our players to be currently enrolled in high school (including home school) and to maintain their academic and disciplinary standing.
Three graduates of the Spring Blackhawks are currently playing lacrosse at the collegiate level.
The spring 2013 Blackhawks had a roster of 22 players from 13 different area high schools and home schools. The spring 2014 Blackhawks had a roster of 22 players from 14 different high schools.
Spring Blackhawks attackman Harry Keefe and defender Cole Clifton were selected for and played in the Triad High School
Senior Lacrosse Game in 2012. Spring Blackhawks goalie Spencer McNeeley was selected to and played in the All-Star Game in 2013. Current senior Blackhawk defender Tracer Leonard has signed to play lacrosse beginning next year at Greensboro College.
