The Triad Blackhawks are pleased to be involved in a unified Triad lacrosse initiative to honor the memory of Northwest High School lacrosse player Chase M. Bunting, who died tragically on October 29, 2010.
The program, called “A Stick from Chase,” will carry on Chase’s legacy of generosity by giving small model lacrosse sticks to young children at various tournaments and lacrosse events. The program has the full support of the Bunting family. The participating lacrosse organizations include the Blackhawks; Triad Youth Lacrosse Association (where Chase started playing the game); Old North State (Chase’s club team); Northern Guilford High School Lacrosse; Reynolds High School Lacrosse; Kernersville Lacrosse; Northwest Guilford High School Lacrosse; Alamance War Dogs; and the Piedmont Buccaneers. Chase was known throughout his life for his generosity, including loaning and even giving away lacrosse equipment, and as an organ donor he lives on through four grateful recipients. For more about Chase, please click go to Chase’s Story. STX Lacrosse and Warrior Lacrosse have generously donated sticks to the program. To each of these sticks will be affixed a sticker identifying the stick with the program. Area lacrosse organizations will give these sticks out at tournaments, games, scrimmages, and other lacrosse events in order to help grow the game of lacrosse in this area. The first sticks in the “A Stick from Chase” program were given away to more than eighty children at the Viking Games on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Kernodle Middle School in
Greensboro. The program continued at the December 4, 2010 Triad Holiday Toy Lacrosse Classic, where we believe every child under the age of 10 in attendance received a stick. At the Holiday Toy Classic, Chase’s mother, Robin, was on hand to help man the table. Sticks have also been given away at the Northwest HS Play Day on February 26, 2011 and at Northwest High School’s home games and playoff games. The program also had a presence at the November 2011 CB17 Games (formerly Viking Games) as well as the December 3, 2011 Holiday Toy Classic in Kernersville. During summer 2012, A Stick From Chase gave away sticks at the Mid Summer Classic in Greensboro and at the Triad Blackhawks’ Triad Cup held on July 21 and 22 in Kernersville.
