KV9 -- Cats vs GLC

Cats vs Greensboro Lacrosse Club

The K-Vegas Classic — the “Tournament for the Rest of Us” — made its second annual appearance yesterday at Cash-Bagley Fields with players from 35 different schools represented in the High School division and numerous middle and elementary schools represented in the Youth Division. Unlike last year, the weather cooperated, and when the first two high school games ended in ties and had to be settled by Braveheart, we just know it would be a great day of lacrosse. In the High School division, Knotty Knights ended up undefeated after a one-goal win in what turned out to be the championship game against the Cats. In the Youth division, we brought out the box lacrosse goals and the Swax Lax balls and had as much fast-paced “Lightning Lax” 4 v 4 action as those energetic future stars could handle. Italian Ice was the popular consumable of the afternoon, and some brave souls agreed to be victimized in the dunking booth. Coach Joel Mize made a splash after a first-throw bull’s-eye by a North Davidson lacrosse mom and earned $1,000 for the Black Knights soon-to-be varsity lacrosse program. Hard Pressed Designs and the Pratt crew were on hand to make sure everyone’s apparel needs were met. STX Pix was on hand to memorialize the event in photos (they put our amateur photos below to shame!). Thank you to all players, coaches, fans, and vendors for making this a truly superb day of lacrosse!
